Guide
Is Hims & Hers legit?
A real business with a real prescription requirement. The question worth asking is what it dispenses and what it bills — $238 a month.
Updated 2026-09-18 · Prices verified independently
Why you can trust this: we take payment from one company on this page — Coreage Rx — when a reader signs up through our link. It does not change the prices we print or the rubric we score against, both of which are published in full on how we rate. Read our full disclosure.
Short answer: Hims & Hers is a real, operating telehealth business that requires a prescription and a clinician review, and there is nothing in what we checked to suggest otherwise. The longer answer is about what exactly it dispenses and what it charges.
"Legit" tends to mean two different things when people search it. One is "will I be scammed" — and on that, Hims & Hers behaves like a legitimate business. The other is "is what I am being sold what I think it is", and that is the question worth more of your time.
What we verified

The five-point check
- Requires a prescription and a clinician review. Yes — Hims & Hers routes intake through a licensed clinician before anything ships. Any seller that does not is the single clearest warning sign in this market.
- Dispenses FDA-approved medication. No — this is a compounded preparation, which the FDA has not reviewed for safety, effectiveness or manufacturing quality. That is true of most low-cost programmes and is not by itself a mark against them, but you should know it.
- Names its compounding pharmacy. Not publicly. Ask before you order, and ask whether it is a 503A pharmacy or a registered 503B outsourcing facility.
- Publishes its ongoing price. Partly. The advertised figure is $199 and the billed figure is $238 — The advertised entry prices and the membership are separate charges. Add $39/month to whatever medication figure you were quoted.
- States what happens on cancellation. Less clearly than we would like. Check the terms before prepaying a multi-month plan.
What "compounded" means here
A compounding pharmacy prepares the medication against an individual prescription. It is legal and long-established, but the preparation itself is not FDA-approved. Since the shortages resolved the rules have narrowed considerably — see is compounded still legal.
What it costs, plainly
| Hims & Hers | |
|---|---|
| Advertised from | $199 |
| Membership | $39/mo |
| Billed monthly | $238 |
| Per year | $2,856 |
Where it falls short
- The $39 membership is charged on top of every medication price.
- The cheapest advertised numbers refer to oral kits, which are not equivalent to weekly injections.
- Renewal pricing is materially higher than the introductory rate.
Red flags we did not find
- No prescription requirement — not the case here.
- Medication sold as "research chemicals" or "not for human consumption" — not the case here.
- Prices far below every other seller, which usually signals an unlicensed source.
- No way to contact a clinician after purchase.
- No named clinical leadership anywhere on the site.

Our verdict
Hims & Hers is legitimate in the sense most people mean. Whether it is *right* for you is a separate question, and it comes down to the $238 a month and the $39 membership is charged on top of every medication price. Our full assessment is in the Hims & Hers tirzepatide review.
